Coach Chad Grimm’s Notes on the Speed to Power Edge Rush
- Align your stance to a fixed point that is 7 yards behind center, which is where the QB will be when he throws the ball (Do Not align stance straight up the field, you must align to where the QB will be. A straight line is the fastest route).
- Get Off is critical, Pad Level!
- Fun Fact: DeMarcus Ware told Coach Will Montgomery, who was his 2014 Broncos Teammate, that he jumps the snap count based on when the QB opens his hands, because QBs will open their hands a tick before the ball is snapped.
- Gain Ground, how far can you get in your first two steps
- Feet and Hands work independently
- With inside hand, swipe down the offensive lineman’s outside hand
- Then, with outside hand, grasp the back of the OLs pads and turn the corner to the QB
- IF the OL intercepts your straight line to the QB then turn your inside swipe hand into a Long Arm Bull
- If the OL Over Sets and invites the inside rush, then take it, swipe/OLs inside hand to Hump inside, or club inside
- DL can sell it more with a head and shoulder fake outside first, then swipe / hump / club inside
- If the OL Over Sets and invites the inside rush, then take it, swipe/OLs inside hand to Hump inside, or club inside
